At the moment: Third body narrating a cross-cultural process of fusion and transformation in pedagogy, performance and choreography
This thesis investigates my cross-cultural journey as an international students, teacher, performer, and choreographer at the University of Utah. It illuminates how I blended my two dancing bodies: Chinese and modern, to create a new third body. I explore question of the integration of my Taiwanese cultural identity into the Western context, specifically in the realm of dance. Ultimately, through narrating this cross-cultural transformation, I realize how my identity and body are a fusion of two cultural paradigms. In my choreographic process, I am able to accept or reject elements and knowledge from both cultures to create my own dance ideas, philosophy, and beliefs. In this document, I use the terms "hybrid" and "fusion" interchangeably.
