Dancing with space-the study of dance, space, body and social relationship in the environmental theater
Performance has become an analytical lens for examining a range of geographical phenomena. The dance performance space and the body practice in it are the less explored parts of the geography in the past. Therefore, this research is a spatial display of geography, with the body as the target, forming a cross-border study about the dance of geography. When the dance breaks away from the standard stage space, the daily life space is used as the stage to form a dance environment theater, in which the interaction between the performer and the place, the dancer's own body, and the the dance concept will generate a relationship with the place. Therefore, the research objectives include (1) exploring the spatial production and significance of dance performances in environmental theater; (2) exploring the body practice of dance body in environmental theater; (3) exploring the social network relationship of dancing in environmental theater.
This research adopts qualitative research methods, and the research object is a dance company that has been committed to the development of environmental theater for a long time-"Dancecology". Most of the dance works focus on the issues of concern for nature and humanities, which are valuable and important to the interaction of dance performances in different environmental spaces. Research has found that dance performances in environmental theaters are different from traditional performance spaces, reproducing the social relationship between themes and challenging the past ways of understanding space. Secondly, the performance of the body in the environmental theater responds to Thrift's non-representational theory: the body is transformed into social and cultural meaning through the performance, and the emotions, space are shaped by the network relationship between the local and the dance works. And to create the local experience of dance geography.
Keywords: environmental theater, dance of geography, body, Non-representational theory

I was enrolled in a master's program in the Geography Department of National Taiwan Normal University. Since I joined the NTNU Modern Dance Club when I was in college, it opened the opportunity for me to get to know dance. In the four years of college, I mostly danced modern dance and jazz dance. I participated in every dance show as a choreographer and dancer. In my senior year, I also participated in the national student dance competition for college students. And in 2015, I participated in the Taipei Fringe Festival to hold ticket sales performances. I was quite involved in these dance activities and became a nutrient for my thesis. At present, I am committed to the research of the geography of dance. Dance is to use the body as language to express emotions, hoping to integrate with the geography about the interaction between people and the environment to create new cultural meanings.
